Strategic expansion requires more than identifying opportunity. It requires building the infrastructure, partnerships, and operational capabilities to serve that opportunity profitably. VEV Travels Private Limited's US market strategy demonstrates how a focused approach to international expansion can deliver results even for relatively young companies.
The Gurgaon-based travel services firm, founded in 2022, recently completed a dedicated 75-seat BPO facility focused exclusively on Indo-US travel. The move represents a significant strategic bet on a specific corridor rather than generalized international expansion.
"We're deliberately focused," explains Tarun Yadav, VEV Travels' CEO and founder. "Rather than trying to serve every international market, we built deep capabilities for the Indo-US corridor. That means specialized staff, targeted partnerships, systems optimized for this specific travel pattern."
The strategic rationale centers on several factors:
Market Size: Indo-US travel represents substantial volume in both directions, with India among the top sources of US visitors and growing American interest in Indian destinations.
Service Gap: Existing providers often treat international travel as commodity bookings, creating opportunity for service-differentiated offerings.
Partnership Leverage: VEV's relationships with US-focused brands (Hilton properties across American cities, Hertz and Avis nationwide, Expedia Group's extensive US inventory) provide competitive foundation.
Operational Advantage: 24/7 operations from India naturally covers US time zones, creating service delivery advantage over US-based competitors.
The company's approach required substantial investment before generating returns. The 75-seat facility includes upgraded technology, specialized training programs, recruitment costs for US-market specialists, and systems development for handling US-specific booking requirements.
"We invested heavily upfront," notes Renuka Yadav, who oversees operations and partnerships. "That's necessary when building specialized capabilities. You can't serve US clients effectively with general training and standard systems."
VEV's competitive positioning in the US market emphasizes three elements:
Brand Partnerships: Access to Hilton, IHG, Hyatt, and other major US hotel chains through established relationships provides competitive rates and inventory.
Cultural Fluency: Multilingual staff who understand both Indian and American travel patterns, communication styles, and service expectations.
Service Layer: 24/7 human support backed by technology, providing reliability that pure-play online platforms struggle to match.
The model targets travelers who value service and reliability over absolute lowest price — a segment that represents meaningful volume in the Indo-US corridor, particularly for business travel, family visits by diaspora, and educational travel.
Early metrics suggest the strategy is working. VEV Travels processed over 1 million bookings this year with US-related travel showing 60%+ growth rates. The company projects US market revenue will reach 35-40% of total revenue in 2025, up from approximately 20% currently.
The company's partnership model provides margin protection in a price-competitive market. By working with established brands that handle their own marketing and customer acquisition, VEV focuses resources on operations and service delivery rather than broad marketing spend.
"Our customer acquisition cost is significantly lower than direct-to-consumer travel companies," Tarun notes. "We're leveraging partner brands and building through referrals and service reputation rather than paid advertising."
The US facility also positions VEV to serve corporate travel management, a higher-margin segment that requires specialized capabilities. The company is piloting corporate programs with several India-US corridor businesses, potentially opening a new revenue stream.
Looking ahead, the US market investment provides a template that could be replicated for other corridors. If the model delivers projected returns, similar focused facilities for UK-India, Australia-India, or Middle East-India travel could follow.
"We're proving the focused corridor approach works," Tarun explains. "Build deep capabilities for specific routes rather than shallow capabilities for everywhere. If this succeeds at scale, it's replicable."
Industry dynamics favor VEV's model. Post-pandemic travel has rebounded strongly, but travelers increasingly value reliability and service over pure price competition. Companies that can deliver both—competitive rates through partnerships plus superior service - are capturing share.
The travel BPO market in India is projected to grow approximately 40% over the next two years, driven by increasing international travel, technology adoption, and evolving customer expectations. VEV Travels' focused corridor strategy positions it to capture a disproportionate share of that growth in its target markets.
For management, the US expansion validates the company's partnership-first model and provides confidence for continued investment. The company is targeting 50% overall growth in 2025, with US market growth driving a substantial portion of that increase.
"We're not trying to be the biggest travel company," Tarun concludes. "We're trying to be the best at serving specific corridors where we can deliver meaningful value. That's a strategy that scales."
