The Indore Development Authority (IDA) is on the hunt for a consultant to help shape the city’s growth through detailed Town Planning Schemes (TPS). This step is part of Indore’s big plan to improve its infrastructure and make the city more livable, as outlined in the Indore Master Plan 2035.
The chosen consultant will create plans for various projects, including TPS-1 to TPS-10, which focus on building better neighborhoods, business areas, and infrastructure. These plans include wider roads, better public transport like Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), and more bike lanes and sidewalks. With Indore expecting its population to hit 60 lakh by 2035 and possibly over 80 lakh by 2050, these efforts are crucial to keep the city thriving.
The IDA decided to bring in a consultant after a recent board meeting highlighted the need for expert guidance on these complex projects. The consultant will work with a team that includes experts from the Central for Environmental Planning & Technology (CEPT) in Bhopal and the Town and Country Planning Department. They’ll also make sure the plans protect the environment and are fair in how land is used.
Indore is already buzzing with development, from new flyovers to a Startup Park and a top-notch Convention Centre, which were highlighted at the Global Investors Summit in Bhopal. The IDA has set aside Rs 320 crore for 2024-25 to keep these projects going, plus Rs 20 crore for planting trees to make the city greener.
Local leaders and planners are excited about the move, saying a skilled consultant is key to balancing growth with sustainability. The bidding process is expected to draw top firms, with the IDA focused on choosing someone with the right experience and a commitment to fairness. As Indore grows into a major urban hub, this consultant’s work will play a huge role in shaping its future.
