DeHaat, Patna based AgriTech platform announced its tie up with Coca Cola India to work with over 50,000 farmers who cultivate litchi in east India.\
This partnership will help the farmers and would provide end to end support from setting up new orchards to rejuvenating existing orchards. The company’s also said that they are to create a transparent supply chain for the yield.
Shashank Kumar, co-founder and CEO of DeHaat said that this partnership will help the companies to reach out to more farmers. They believe in providing complete end to end agricultural services and also ensure that they get all the necessary technical assistance which will help them gain profits.
DeHaat is working with farmers who cultivate crops like corn, wheat, banana and others in Bihar, UP, Odishaand Jharkhand. It is targeting to work with 6 lakhs farmers.
Asim Parekh, Vice President, Coca-Cola India said, “Considering the low productivity per acre to litchi in India, we believe in long term investment for the farmers to demonstrate the advance production technology like ultra density plantation, better orchard management and micro irrigation.”
ET reported that Coca Cola has already invested in value chain of fruits like apple, grapes and oranges and now has shifted its focus on litchi.
Parekh informed that the unnati program initiated by them helps framers with appropriate technical assistance to maximize yield and income.
The article also stated Adarsh Srivastav, Promoter, DeHaat saying “In the past six years we have been seeing the declining productivity and quality of fruits due to the climate condition. There was a time when Bihar used to produce more than 70% litchi of the country which has been reduced to 50% in 4-5 years.”
He further added,“In next 3 years, we are going to touch base more than 50 growers with out training, advisory and other value chain services.”
