Animal healthcare is moving beyond conventional treatment toward a more integrated approach that combines disease management, nutrition, preventive care and productivity. Across poultry, livestock, aquaculture and companion animals, changing farming practices, rising awareness among animal owners and growing emphasis on performance are creating demand for solutions that are not only effective but also tailored to specific species and field conditions. The industry is consequently placing greater value on formulation science, reliable quality and products designed around actual on-ground challenges.
It is within this changing landscape that Vesper Group has built its identity over decades. Founded in 1978, the Group has evolved from a veterinary pharmaceutical business into a broader animal-health organization with capabilities spanning pharmaceuticals, feed supplements and specialized solutions. Under the leadership of Ruby Sharma, CEO of Vesper Group and Proprietor of Vesper Labs, the organization is strengthening its emphasis on scientific product development, practical field requirements and result-oriented formulations. Rather than pursuing growth through portfolio expansion alone, Vesper is focused on developing solutions that address specific animal-health needs and deliver meaningful value to farmers, veterinarians and animal owners.
Building on a Legacy of Veterinary Expertise
Vesper Group’s journey reflects the evolution of India’s animal-health sector itself. Over more than four decades, the Vesper Group has expanded its presence across poultry, dairy, goat, sheep, horses, dogs, aquaculture and piggery, while building a group structure that includes Vesper Pharmaceutical, Vesper Labs, Orchid Spa and Herbal Farma. Vesper Labs, established in 2002, has provided an important R&D platform for this evolution, supporting the organisation’s focus on formulation development.
A defining principle behind the Vesper Group’s growth has been that a successful veterinary product must have a clear purpose. The organization therefore places emphasis on factors such as molecular weight, drug carriers, base materials and species-specific physiology when developing formulations. Some of its products have remained in the market for more than four decades, reflecting the trust built through consistency and field acceptance.
This approach has also shaped the Vesper Group’s preference for combined premix and formulated solutions where they can provide a more practical answer than individual ingredients. The objective is straightforward: understand the challenge first, then develop the right solution around it.
Turning Field Challenges into Product Innovation
For Vesper, innovation starts with a problem rather than a product. Its multidisciplinary technical capabilities, drawing on veterinary science, microbiology and pharmaceutical chemistry, enable the organization to examine animal physiology and formulation requirements together.
The Group’s R&D approach considers ADME - Absorption, Distribution, Metabolism and Excretion - alongside factors including pH, molecular weight, carriers and the way active ingredients are absorbed and assimilated by different species. This species-specific perspective is particularly important in animal healthcare, where physiological differences can significantly influence how a formulation performs.
A representative example is RC-Ves granules, developed around challenges faced during early chick mortality, transportation stress, dehydration and changing weather conditions. The formulation provides essential nutrients and salts at an early stage while supporting yolk absorption. Even the physical characteristics of the granules, including their size, shape and colour, were considered to make them easier for chicks to consume.
“Vesper’s innovation agenda extends across livestock and aquaculture as well, with solutions being developed around challenges such as lumpy disease in cattle, swine fever and pond-environment management. The focus remains firmly on converting scientific understanding into practical field applications”, speaks Ruby Sharma, CEO.
Quality as a Foundation for Long-Term Trust
Innovation, however, has little value without consistency. The organization has therefore built quality controls across the product lifecycle, beginning with raw materials. Its in-house raw-material testing laboratory enables batches to be evaluated before entering production, while external laboratories are used where required.
Vesper Group’s long-standing relationships with raw-material suppliers - some extending over two to three decades - also support consistency within the supply chain. Quality checks continue through manufacturing, with finished products undergoing appropriate evaluation, including random sample testing, before release. Vesper aims to combine its experience with new science, technology and ideas to build a stronger national and international presence
“This emphasis reflects a broader philosophy that quality is not the responsibility of one department. Procurement, R&D, production, quality control, warehousing and distribution all contribute to ensuring that the final product meets expected standards. For Vesper, reliability means maintaining confidence in a product not only when it enters the market, but throughout its lifecycle”, shares Ruby Sharma.
Expanding the Next Chapter of Animal Health
Looking ahead, Vesper Group sees opportunities across livestock, poultry, aquaculture and companion-animal healthcare. The organization plans to expand its livestock business across India, explore untapped aquaculture markets, strengthen its companion-animal portfolio through Ves-Pets, and introduce poultry feed in selected states.
R&D will remain central to this roadmap, with greater emphasis on formulation development and solutions rooted in genuine field requirements. Vesper Group also sees digital platforms becoming increasingly important for improving product accessibility and customer convenience, complementing its established distribution network.
Over the next five years, Vesper aims to combine its experience since 1978 with new science, technology and ideas to build a stronger national and international presence. Its ambition is not simply to become larger, but to become more relevant to the evolving animal-health ecosystem. By bringing together veterinary expertise, formulation science, quality discipline and field understanding, Vesper Group is positioning itself for a future in which better animal health increasingly becomes inseparable from better productivity, sustainability and value across the entire agricultural ecosystem.
