Despite being ranked 4th in terms of military by Global Power Index 2024, India has been predominantly reliant on foreign countries for procuring its defense systems & equipment until recently. However, with the government launching numerous initiatives to truly become ‘Atmanirbhar’ in this regard, the defense equipment manufacturing sector in the country is thriving incessantly in recent times. As per recent data from DPSUs, India’s domestic defense production hit a record high of ₹1,27,265 crores in 2024, representing an impressive 174 percent increase from ₹46,429 crore in 2014-15.
Although there are a myriad of companies currently operational in this dynamic industry, one that stands a notch higher than the rest is Thrikasa Technologies. Based in Hyderabad, Thrikasa Technologies was incepted in 2002 by Murthy Chintalapati, Founder & CEO, with a vision to provide innovative solutions that are both highly efficient as well as suitable for diverse kinds of harsh environments.
Today, the company has earned the reputation of being the leading suppliers of rugged computing solutions for a wide range of applications across aerospace, defense & military, energy, communication, railways, mining and many other industries.
Sharing his thoughts on the current market scenario, Murthy elucidates, “When it concerns the defense vertical, self-reliance has always been the primary aspect for almost every country worldwide, and India has been very proactive over the last 8-10 years in this regard. As a tier- III contractor to the prime contractors, our primary focus has been to indigenize defense computers & systems in India. Since these computers are at the core of every solution or application in the defense sector, we see a larger business potential for exports as well”.
Key Products & Service Offerings
Some of the major products & solutions that Thrikasa Technologies offers include MIL qualified com¬puters, airborne qualified computers, rugged GPG¬PU laptops, servers, workstations, panel computers (8”/10”/12”/15”/17”/19”/21”/24” variants), laptops, standalone switches, and multi & single display consoles.
Considered as its primary forte and primary flagship area, the company’s ruggedized laptops have been tested and qualified to operate even under harsh environmental conditions such as temperatures ranging from -40 degrees to 80 degrees. To further benefit its clients and cater to a broader requirement spectrum, Thrikasa Technologies also provides services such as software preinstallation, hardware options, choice of connectors, conformal coat¬ing, and special testing & qualification as well.
Additionally, Thrikasa Technologies has also been associated with MPL Switzerland for over 26 years now, wherein it not only designs and supplies MPL’s MILCOT product range, but also contributes to their European projects as well, which are supplied to other foreign markets. While this collaboration helps both entities to successfully meet specific standards and project requirements, MPL also delivers Thrikasa Technologies' TRICOR products in the European market under the same name but with its logo branding. Owing to such a diverse and exquisite portfolio of offerings, the firm has strongly cemented its position as the top-of-the-mind choice for diverse defense related requirements.
“We have formulated our product suites to offer for a wide range of applications from large integrators building an entire infrastructure to the developer looking for a development kit.
Our products effectively reduce the amount of work and time required to complete project and make it possible to use latest technology in a transparent way. We have built an ecosystem of inter-operable components, software and services that enable consistent and quick development of end user projects”, adds Murthy.
Local Expertise, Client-centricity & Quality – The USP
As an indigenous technology development company, Thrikasa Technologies has a clear understanding of the use cases that these computers have with various defense company applications. Unlike foreign companies who are just looking to sell their products, the company leverages its deep local market know-how to match the products as per customers’ application. Additionally, it also ensures to build its equipment precisely as per the technical & dimensional specifications provided by the clients and in full adherence to the tests demanded by them. Keeping in mind that these defense systems are meant to be used over long durations, the firm has maintained the same connectorization and size for its products right since its inception to facilitate easy availability of spares or replacements for its clients for many more years to come as well.
Quality and client-centricity have been the cornerstone of Thrikasa Technologies' business, wherein it is always ready to go an extra mile to ensure that its customers are provided with the best service quality and value for their money. As an ISO 9001: 2015 certified company, Thrikasa Technologies has stringent quality control mechanisms in place, wherein every unit of material or component that it receives undergoes strict inspection and then put through integration inspection process which even the clients can be a part of. Additionally, every product or solution that it designs also undergo development as well as production testing at externally outsourced testing facilities that are approved by the Ministry of Defense. Most importantly, every internal or external testing that the company’s products undergo is video recorded and shared with the customers for review, ensuring 100 percent client satisfaction while simultaneously building trust.
We have built an ecosystem of inter-operable systems, software and services that enable consistent and quick development of end user projects
“Always staying committed to honest delivery and quality, we strive to be a partner rather than a mere supplier for our clients in their projects. While most companies provide a 1-year warranty to their computers, Thrikasa Technologies' computers come with a 3-year warranty and even have a failure rate of just 0.1 percent. While this additional 2-year warranty sometimes is worth the cost of two additional systems, the minuscule failure rate that our products hold make them even more cost-effective for our customers”, Murthy further explains.
Star-studded & Speckless Business Journey
Till date, Thrikasa Technologies has created 280+ unique equipment designs for various defense projects, among which more than 30-40 percent are still in production, and close to 9,000 computers are currently deployed cross various borders. Owing to such exceptional track record, it was not only among the 75 companies out of 50,000 defense manufacturers which were awarded by the Defense Ministry while commemorating 50 years of DRDO formation, but is also recognized by top companies such as L&T, BEL, BFL, TATA and DRDO Labs as ‘Valued Trusted Partner’. Further, the company also holds a 100/100 vendor rating for delivery, quality and technology for the last two years, which is a strong testament of Thrikasa Technologies' credibility as a reliable partner in the industry.
To help India overcome the reliance on foreign nations for its communication system requirements, Thrikasa Technologies has ambitious future plans in terms of its product innovation & development. In light of this, it has already designed an indigenous communication technology and implemented it as a proof-of-concept. Additionally, the company is also working on a vision-integrated communication system named Vision-360 comprising of 360-degree cameras, which when fitted into the tanks, enable the operators inside to get real time visuals of their surroundings and nearby terrain on their computer displays. Since this is also communications integrated, they can also stay in constant touch with the command centers and provide live streaming of what’s happening around them, facilitating faster decision making which is critical in the defense arena.
“Available in the market from Q2 of this year, we have already received multiple enquiries for our ruggedized laptop which is an indigenous development. Our aim is to provide a full-fledged range of indigenously developed communication equipment by 2026 and launch Vision-360 into the market by 2027-28 to cater to the Indian defense vertical”, concludes Murthy.
