ZF India has entered into a strategic partnership with a top Indian commercial vehicle manufacturer to supply thousands of manual and automatic transmissions for performance-oriented heavy-duty trucks. The agreement was completed in March 2025, and it focuses on supplying 9-speed transmission systems for trucks above 300 horsepower.
As part of this arrangement, ZF will supply its EcoMid manual and EcoTronic Mid automatic transmissions designed for trucks over 25 tonnes and torque levels to 1300Nm. These transmissions will be produced at ZF's Chakan plant in Pune, in line with the government's "Make in India" policy to bolster domestic production.
ZF has a solid portfolio in India's high-torque transmission, including 9-speed options capable of 1,500Nm of torque and also 12-speed models able to handle 3200Nm. The EcoMid platform can be used up to 55 tonnes and is found in both the direct drive and overdrive format.
Akash Passey, President of ZF Group in India, highlighted the company’s six-decade-long history in the Indian market and its commitment to providing operational efficiency solutions. P Kaniappan, Senior Vice President at ZF Group, emphasized that the transmissions would play a crucial role in advancing the commercial vehicle industry’s push toward greater efficiency in heavy-duty operations.
