According to West Bengal Minister of IT & Electronics Babul Supriyo, GlobalFoundries, a significant US-based semiconductor manufacturing company, is anticipated to begin operations in Kolkata by the end of August or early September, with its R&D and testing facilities, before Durga Pujas.
The US multinational, which would begin operations in Kolkata, will assist improve Bengal's investment climate in the IT and semiconductor industries and prevent brain drain from the state, which has a wealth of highly qualified and brilliant experts."After handing over the space, R&D is the first step, and there are several other phases that are in the fold in coming days. I hope we will see something concrete on the ground within the next three months," the minister added.
In the subsequent phase, the organization will initiate its Fabrication Laboratory, which is expected to significantly increase employment opportunities, according to informed sources. A space of approximately 13,000 square feet has been allocated to GlobalFoundries at the Software Technology Park of India (STPI) IT park located in the eastern outskirts of Kolkata’s Salt Lake.
