Laying the groundwork for the first locally sourced biometric hardware in India, RRP Electronics, a semiconductor company focused on OSAT manufacturing, announced its new Samved Fingerprint Sensor modules.
This launch builds up India's semiconductor ecosystem by combining both indigenous IP and domestic manufacturing capabilities, and is a critical step in India's long-term strategy toward achieving self-sufficiency in the area of electronics and chips.
The Samved fingerprint modules deliver high-resolution, low-power fingerprint intelligence designed for secure digital identity verification. Built with Edge-AI intelligence, the modules enable faster and more secure biometric authentication by processing fingerprint sensing, analysis, and decision-making directly within the device.
This architecture eliminates the need to transmit raw biometric data to external systems or the cloud, ensuring compliance with security and identity regulations while delivering instant authentication without network dependency.
Apoorva Raut, CTO of RRP Electronics, stated, “This is a significant advancement in biometric hardware manufacturing in India, contributing to the development of indigenous intellectual property (IP) and manufacturing capabilities. These products are entirely manufactured in India, allowing for rapid customisation and deployment for our customers.”
Founder and chairman Rajendra Chodankar highlighted that RRP’s OSAT facility was set up in record time, beginning chip production in April 2025 and moving quickly into product development. The company’s next milestone is wafer-level packaging, while addressing challenges in advanced product design and semiconductor value-chain progression.
RRP has partnered with Taiwan-based Horng for manufacturing and plans to expand into SIM cards and payment cards, further deepening India’s domestic semiconductor capabilities.
