Cognizant and OMRON teamed up to unify information technology and operational technology within the manufacturing space. The agreement formalizes Cognizant as the engineering partner to OMRON’s industrial automation business (IAB) products. The partnership combines OMRON’s advanced automation technologies—such as sensors, controllers, servo motors, safety devices, and robots—with Cognizant’s IT expertise in cloud, AI, IoT, and digital twin technology to create a solution for multiple industries, including automotive, semiconductor, electronics, manufacturing, life sciences, and consumer goods.
OMRON is described as the only control equipment manufacturer in the world that owns all the equipment used in its production line. In contrast, Cognizant is recognized as one of the world’s leading global IT services companies, supporting the digital transformation of various industries through advanced digital technologies such as AI, IoT, and cloud computing.
The all-encompassing platform combines advisory, on-site deployment, management and support, to furnish an avenue to sustainable manufacturing. The aim of the solution is to enhance productivity, improve workforce performance, and decrease greenhouse gas emissions.
The collaboration will leverage OMRON's considerable product lineup for the collection of high-grade field data and evidence of success, namely over 2,00,000 SKUs for Cognizant's Asset Performance Excellence (APEx) platform and Industry 4.0/5.0 maturity assessment tool OnePlant. The collected data will help diagnose issues on the IT-side as well as prioritize improvements that will drive enhancements in execution that will ultimately be visible to on-site operations and management.
