STMicroelectronics, a world leader in semiconductor innovation, announced that Rias Al-Kadi, General Manager of the Range and Connectivity Division, has accepted a position on the Board of Directors of the FiRa Consortium.
FiRa Consortium is the world’s premier organization promoting secure fine-ranging and positioning using Ultra-Wideband (UWB) technology. This appointment reflects STMicroelectronics’ growing influence in the development of UWB standards and the expansion and adoption of UWB in automotive and consumer applications.
STMicroelectronics is an active contributor to the IEEE 802.15.4ab UWB standard, and ST continues to advance capabilities that improve accuracy, enhance energy efficiency, and expand the world of possibilities using UWB technology.

These advances enable next-generation use cases such as digital car keys, smart home automation, and IoT-based location systems. Incorporating this standard as part of the Connected Car Consortium (CCC) Digital Key standards advancement is a significant step towards providing secure, interoperable UWB solutions for the automotive market.
