Germany-headquartered Benteler Automotive has strengthened its manufacturing presence in India by leasing over 1.36 lakh sq ft of additional industrial space at Blackstone-backed Horizon Industrial Park in Chakan, Pune, a major automobile and auto components hub.
The expansion takes the company’s total leased area at the park to about 2.64 lakh sq ft, underscoring the growing role of the Chakan belt in India’s automotive manufacturing ecosystem.
Benteler Automotive India has signed the lease for a period of more than five years and will pay a monthly rental of Rs 43.4 lakh for the newly added facility, with a 4.7% annual escalation. The new manufacturing unit will be used for in-house production of tubes for torsion beams, a critical component used in rear axle beam manufacturing that was earlier fully imported.
The company anticipates an increase in eventual efficiencies within its supply chain as well as a larger degree of regulation over when they will produce their projects through the localization of their key automotive component manufacturing operations in India.
While this is occurring, the Indian Government is enthusiastically advocating for the "Make in India" initiative through aggressive promotion of domestically produced goods and services.
Chakan, located in Pune district, continues to witness robust demand for industrial and manufacturing real estate as global and domestic companies invest in new facilities. Horizon Industrial Parks, owned and managed by Blackstone, operates 45 industrial, logistics and in-city parks across 10 Indian markets, with a portfolio of about 58 million sq ft of leasable area.
