OMC Power is making significant strides by leveraging repurposed EV batteries to provide energy storage solutions across various market segments.
The company, which is well-known for its proficiency in mini-grid development, greening telecom infrastructure, and rooftop solarization, is exploring the possibility of utilizing used EV batteries to meet energy demands.
"Repurposing EV batteries is a very new application area in India. Probably we would be the first one to do it with Honda Motors Japan," said Rohit Chandra, co-founder and CEO of OMC Power. He highlighted concerns over the future of EV batteries, which still have substantial life after being used in electric vehicles.

The CEO explained that one of the first use cases the company piloted involved repurposing EV batteries for home and commercial use in Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) applications. Additionally, hybrid rooftop installations supported by battery storage systems are expected to be a major application in the future.
Honda Motor Co. Ltd., which acquired a minority stake in OMC Power in October 2025, will provide used EV batteries for repurposing for another seven years after three years of use. OMC Power has already conducted several successful pilot projects, including one at a school in Hardoi, Uttar Pradesh, which benefited from a solar rooftop installation along with battery storage.
