A substantial increase from the 87.64 LMT in H1FY23, the state-owned energy juggernaut NTPC recorded an 83% growth in coal production for H1FY24, reaching 160.54 LMT. At the same time, Coal dispatch for the time period increased by 94% to 172.04 LMT.
With Q2 figures, this growth pattern is further described. This quarter's coal production totaled 74.63 LMT, an increase of 66% over Q2 2017 data. Additionally, the production of coal increased by 80% in September 2023 alone, reaching 25.25 LMT.
The dispatch numbers for coal were also encouraging. 83.88 LMT were dispatched at the end of the second quarter, an increase of 80% from the prior year. Particularly in September 2023, there was a tremendous 106% increase in coal dispatch, or 27.12 LMT. These changes follow NTPC Coal Mining's strongest H1 & Q2 results in terms of coal production, dispatch, and OB removal since its inception.
In order to strengthen its focused mining capability by building a specialised company, NTPC has created its 100% totally owned subsidiary, NTPC Mining Limited (NML). This year, important agreements were completed that gave NML management over a number of coal mines.
To demonstrate its aspirations, NML recently won a bid for its first commercial coal mine in North-Dhadu (the eastern section). This action is consistent with the company's plan to increase coal production over the next few years.
