Apollo Micro Systems has moved a step deeper into India’s defense ecosystem after receiving approval from the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) for a 15-year defense manufacturing license under the Industries (Development and Regulation) Act, 1951.
The clearance gives the Hyderabad-based company fresh room to expand its footprint in high-technology defense platforms at a time when demand for indigenous solutions is rising.
The new license allows the company to manufacture a broad range of advanced systems, including unmanned helicopters, inertial navigation technologies and full radar equipment. Under the unmanned helicopters category, Apollo Micro Systems is now authorized to produce Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS).

Karunakar Reddy Baddam, Managing Director, Apollo Micro Systems, said the license strengthens the company’s position in the defense manufacturing ecosystem and supports its future growth pipeline.
The firm is already building multiple UAS platforms and is working with partners in India and abroad on logistics, delivery and offensive unmanned solutions. These platforms are expected to move into field trials over the next two quarters, positioning the company for upcoming opportunities in the fast-growing UAS segment.
The approval also covers inertial navigation systems built on MEMS, fiber-optic gyro (FOG) and ring laser gyro (RLG) technologies. To support upcoming integration and evaluation work, the company has begun procuring key test and calibration equipment. This aligns with its ongoing push to strengthen its technology stack across mission-critical navigation solutions.
In addition, the license includes permission to manufacture complete radar systems along with antennas, transmit-receive modules, signal processing units and radar assemblies.
