ZF’s Commercial Vehicle Solutions division has secured a major order for its AxTrax 2 LF electric portal axle, signing a multi-year contract with an Indian bus manufacturer for several thousand units.
The systems will power city buses in India and select export markets, marking a strong step forward for the AxTrax 2 LF electric portal axle in fast-growing urban mobility programs.
First unveiled at the 2023 Busworld exhibition, the new axle is built to raise efficiency and performance in electric city buses. It can reduce energy use by up to 20 percent compared with earlier models.
That improvement allows operators to lower battery capacity needs while extending vehicle range. The compact low-floor design combines propulsion, braking, and suspension into one unit, freeing up more space for passengers and batteries.
