India’s passenger vehicle segment has taken a decisive step forward in next-generation braking technology with ZF’s commencement of Electric Park Brake (EPB) production in the country. Integrated into a newly launched all-electric vehicle from a leading Indian OEM, this marks the first ever SOP of ZF’s EPB in an Indian passenger car — a milestone in the nation’s journey toward advanced e-mobility and safety.
The EPB launch is part of ZFs India and the World Make in India strategy, which is its determination to support local manufacturing of automotive solutions that are benchmarked around the globe. The EPB is configured to deliver class-leading low drag and NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) levels, to boost vehicle efficiency and to permit the transition by India to electrification. It enables advanced safety features, including two wheel anti-lock emergency stops, and integrates seamlessly into the brake system with dynamic actuation and brake pad wear sensing.
Scalable across passenger cars, light commercial vehicles, and light trucks, ZF’s EPB offers Indian OEMs flexibility in vehicle design while improving reliability over traditional mechanical systems.

Speaking on the development, Akash Passey, President ZF Group in India, said: “The SOP of ZF's first Electric Park Brake in India, on a product like the all-new EV car platform, embodies ZF's commitment to offer leading mobility solutions for local requirements. With advanced systems like the EPB, we are not only enhancing vehicle safety and performance but also supporting Indian auto makers in providing world class and safe products in India.”
ZF's latest action advances India's transition to safer, smarter, and more green transportation by establishing its position as the global market leader in braking technology, having almost 250 million EPB calipers presently on the road globally.
