The amount of Rs 79,000 crore worth of procurement proposals to modernize the Indian armed forces were approved by the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), the Ministry of Defence (MoD) said. The MoD said the timelines for the acquisitions will be communicated later.
The Indian Army will get the Nag Missile System (Tracked) Mk-II (NAMIS), Ground-Based Mobile ELINT System (GBMES), and High Mobility Vehicles (HMVs) with Material Handling Crane following acceptance of necessity (AoN) by the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC).
The Army will be able to destroy enemy combat vehicles, bunkers, and field fortifications using the Nag missile system, which is the primary weapon. Besides, the GBMES will be able to provide uninterrupted electronic intelligence of the enemy emitters, and the HMVs will be more than capable of logistics support in any situation and any terrain.
The Indian Navy plans to buy Landing Platform Docks (LPDs), 30mm Naval Surface Guns (NSG), Advanced Lightweight Torpedoes (ALWT), Electro-Optical Infra-Red Search and Track Systems, and smart ammunition for the 76mm Super Rapid Gun Mount.

Amphibious operations can be conducted using the LPDs, as well as the Army and Air Force can be supported in humanitarian and peacekeeping missions. Besides, the ALWT, which is manufactured in India, can convert the target to a conventional, nuclear, or midget submarine, while the NSG can be used for the maritime security and anti-piracy operations.
The Indian Air Force got the green light for its advanced systems, among them the Collaborative Long Range Target Saturation/Destruction System (CLRTS/DS) which is able to take-off, landing, navigation, detection, and payload delivery without human intervention in mission zones, etc.
