NMDC Steel Limited (NSL), a company owned and controlled by the government, has been awarded the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) license first time in India by an Indian company for hot rolled steel products under IS 18384:2023.
The certification specifies the use of the steel strip, sheet, and plate for the fabrication of the technically most demanding transportation pipelines systems for petroleum and natural gas industry.
License awarding ceremony at the celebrations of the World Standards Day 2025, Raipur, October 16. Vishnu Deo Sai, the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, awarded the certificate to the company's representative.
This milestone made loud and clear NSL's commitment to the pillars of quality, innovation, and green growth. It is a proof point of the company's ability to make high-end grade steel which meets the technically most stringent safety and performance requirements of the critical energy infrastructure.

With a state-of-the-art 3 million tonne per annum (MTPA) integrated steel plant at Nagarnar, Chhattisgarh, NSL went from zero to a major India’s steel sector player in less than a year of commercial production since August 2023.
Amitava Mukherjee, CMD of NMDC Steel, said, “With receiving this BIS license, we lead the way in India, and we cannot be more proud of that. The license is our unwavering commitment to quality and it is like our footprints imprinted on the path towards elevating India's industrial standards and infrastructure.”
The certification thus can act as a propeller to the company's growth, which perfectly shaped the past year in terms of the company's revenue increase due to the successful ramp-up of its state-of-the-art facility.
