Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd has announced plans to invest Rs 6,675 crore to build a 10 GW ingot and wafer manufacturing plant in Nellore, Andhra Pradesh, aiming to strengthen India’s solar and semiconductor supply chain.
The new plant will be the largest in India. It will produce raw materials required in solar cells, solar panels and semiconductor chips.
The project was approved by the State Investment Promotion Board which was headed by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. It will be located on 200 acres: 120 acres in the first stage and 80 acres will be not used at this time in the Iffco Kisan Special Economic Zone.

The relocation of TPREL is equal to the intention of India to make less use of the imported components and reinforce the production of renewable energy technology in the country. The plant will also generate approximately 1,000 direct employment opportunities and numerous construction and operational indirect employment opportunities, contributing to the development of local employment and the industry.
The firm will construct a 200 MW captive green energy to operate the plant in order to supply cleaner electricity. The availability of industrial land, good infrastructure, and access to ports in Andhra Pradesh were the main factors that informed the selection of the state.
According to industry owners, the Tata Power ingot and wafer plant will enhance the India renewable energy system and make Nellore a solar manufacturing hub. Andhra Pradesh State IT Minister Nara Lokesh claimed that the investment will act as a serious vote of confidence in the policies and the manufacturing power of the state.
