The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved an outlay of ₹8,146.21 crore for the development of the 700 MW Tato-II Hydro Electric Project (HEP) in Shi Yomi district of Arunachal Pradesh. The project will consist of an installed capacity of 4 x 175 MW and is likely to generate 2,738.06 million units of power per annum. The project will be completed in 72 months.
To enhance the state as well as national grid balancing power supply, the project would be executed under joint venture by the Government of Arunachal Pradesh and the North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Ltd. (NEEPCO) ₹ 458.79 crore would be provided by the Centre for the support infrastructure in terms of transmission lines, roads, and bridges and ₹436.13 crore as Central Financial Assistance for state equity contribution.
Arunachal Pradesh will get 12% free power and extra 1% towards the Local Area Development Fund (LADF). The scheme will also be in line with the Aatmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan and will provide direct and indirect employment, which will be beneficial to local vendors, MSMEs, and entrepreneurs.

It will also entail considerable development of infrastructure in the form of roads and bridges, 32.88 km in total, mostly for public usage. ₹20 crore of the company's own resources will be used to build hospitals, schools, markets, and playgrounds. Compensation packages, CSR initiatives, and improved socio-economic opportunities will also be provided for the locals.
With its emphasis on clean energy production, infrastructure building, and social welfare, the Tato-II HEP will be a top growth and self-reliance driver of the country.
