In a significant boost to sustainable manufacturing, Vanya Steels, a subsidiary of A-One Steel Group announced a Rs 100 crore investment in a 10 MW waste-to-energy power plant at its unit at Koppal in Karnataka. The project is expected to be commissioned by July 31, 2025.
The new plant will utilize Waste Heat Recovery Boiler (WHRB) technology, converting excess heat from steel production into clean electricity. “This initiative marks a significant step toward sustainable manufacturing in the region,” said Krishan Kumar Jallan, Founder and Chairman of A-One Steel Group.
“Generating green power from waste heat not only minimizes our environmental footprint but also enhances operational resilience. It’s a strategic move that supports community development, boosts our competitiveness, and reflects our commitment to India’s AatmaNirbhar Bharat vision,” Mr Jallan added.

Industry experts see this as a strategic move, as the demand for sustainable energy solutions grows within the manufacturing sector. A WHRB-based plant is expected to result in about 60 local jobs, underscoring Vanya Steels' commitment to regional development and green industrialization.
For the steel industry, often criticized for its high carbon footprint, Vanya Steels' endeavor will serve as an exemplary paradigm of how innovation can manifest in numerous ways while contributing to sustainability. With this investment, Vanya Steels is reinforcing its strategic positioning not only as a steel manufacturer but as a leader in India's transition to green energy practices.
The project is amongst the most ambitious of its kind in the state of Karnataka and has the opportunity to serve as an indicator for other energy-efficient practices throughout India's industrial complex.
