Personally as a fan of technological innovations, I’ve always been trying to analyze how useful the modern inventions are? How are they making our lives better? The comfort and conveniences that Digitization and Technology provide is drastically shifting the way how entire world works.
Undoubtedly technology has made our lives easier. It has changed the way how industries function, the way we study, even how we travel! This greatest invention has turned as the core aspect of everything
Meanwhile, I remember this quote by Marian Wright Edelman which says “In every seed of good there is always a piece of bad.” True that! With all these revitalizing uses technology also plays it’s own negative role.
First thing that strikes us while discussing the negativity to technology is Cyber Crime! To most of us mobile phones are the closest mate. It knows every minute detail of you. Infact, it understands you more than anyone can. Wow that’s Crazy! But… We dwell in the days where even mails and messages are turned assets.
Behind the scene, there are hundreds of cyber criminals waiting to fetch data be it personal or official for fraudulent transaction and ransom ware.
To quote a basic example, private finance companies or loan providers are in need for details on salary, to reach out and provide loans to those who are eligible. Where do they get this data from!? Is this data collection only restricted to this? Your GPS knows notices every movement of you. Your conversations and search results are always monitored, may be to cast better experience in the future but is that really okay? Wait! Now your closest friend seems like a deceiving villain!?
Secondly, the impact of technologies like Artificial Intelligence, Intelligence Augmentation and Automation on employment opportunities has always been under speculation. While world indeed is worried about the jobless future. It’s a true that some of the most cutting edge mechanism can completely do what a human can do! Recently, while reading an article on “The Robot Restaurant” where robots usher in and serve food, pretty impressive concept but what about people who served as waiters? There are a few hotels where robots cook delicious food for you. BPO’s are incorporating artificial intelligence based systems to connect with the customers, the tele-callers role is vanishing. The replacement has already begun!
Technological progress comes with dark sides where good ideas outcast undesirable results. The extreme downside that I would like to put forth is wars and violence. Every invention definitely began for a good cause! The same technology which helps us in various setting is used to build nuclear bombs and biological weapons which is major threat to the nations and world.
Everybody is moving so fast, they seem to have little time to reflect on these threatening consequences resulted by the great advancement. There are benefits for sure, but it costs much more!
