India’s railway modernization push gains momentum as TATA AutoComp Systems Limited and Skoda Group officially announce a joint venture to manufacture railway propulsion systems and components in India. On July 9, 2025, the partnership to localize manufacturing of converters, drives, and auxiliary converters for metros, regional trains, light rail, and medium-high-speed trains was signed.
With a multimillion-euro investment, the JV will promote socio-economic, technology, and employment benefits to the fast-evolving mobility sector of India. This expansion signifies TATA AutoComp's strategy to extend to rail and metro apart from EV components and thereby align with India's goal for infrastructure development.
Arvind Goel, Vice-Chairman of TATA AutoComp, said, “The collaboration would enhance the company’s presence in the Indian railway and metro sector through advanced electrical propulsion systems.”
Backed by 165+ years of experience in public transport, Skoda Group will bring its proven European rail technologies to Indian manufacturing lines.
Petr Novotný, CEO and Chairman of Skoda Group, emphasized, “The partnership would bring proven European technology and expertise to India’s growing rail infrastructure market.”
The JV builds upon TATA AutoComp’s existing contributions to projects like Vande Bharat and will leverage its 68 manufacturing facilities across India. Skoda Group, part of the global PPF Group, will offer technical expertise to ensure safety, efficiency, and sustainability compliance.
The MoU was signed at Hotel Taj Mahal, New Delhi, in the presence of both companies’ senior leadership and Eliska Zigova, Ambassador of the Czech Republic to India, underscoring the diplomatic weight behind this industrial collaboration.
