In a significant boost to India’s electric vehicle (EV) goals, Kanpur is set to become a major member of the global EV manufacturing ecosystem with the opening of a Rs 700 crore industrial park for the EV ecosystem.
Launched via a public-private partnership (PPP) under the Uttar Pradesh State Industrial Development Authority (UPSIDA) banner, the Kanpur industrial park is on a 500-acre plot near Bhimsen, where it will host all aspects of the EV ecosystem from components through assembly.
Strategically located along the Dedicated Freight Corridor, the hub will offer world-class infrastructure, ensuring faster supply chain movement and attracting domestic as well as global manufacturers. It will also appeal to domestic players as well as manufacturers from abroad. The Kanpur hub will offer integrated manufacturing facilities for EV motors, lithium-ion batteries, chargers, chassis, controllers, and electronic components. A dedicated R&D centre is also envisioned, to stimulate innovation and the use of technology for green mobility.
