In another seminal step that would revolutionize its automobile industry, India has officially unveiled the Automotive Mission Plan 2047 (AMP 2047). With Prime Minister Narendra Modi leading the charge and Minister HD Kumaraswamy on the helm, the blueprint works in tandem with the national aim of a developed nation by 2047, otherwise known as the Viksit Bharat vision.
The mission plan of AMP 2047 is to make India a global leader in automobiles by being sustainable, innovative, and competitive, with the success story of previous mission plans. It is a policy merger between automotive policy, industrial innovation, and global competitiveness.
The first meeting of AMP 2047’s sub-committees took place to establish the framework and goals. Dr Hanif Qureshi, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Heavy Industries, emphasized the importance of this initiative, saying, “The 2047 vision is not just a goal, but a roadmap with clear, actionable targets for growth, export expansion, and industry evolution. Our focus should be on enhancing India’s position in the global automotive market through innovation and superior quality.”
The roadmap has attracted public input including the following Ministries in the government, viz., Power, Road Transport, Petroleum & Natural Gas, Commerce, and premier industry organizations like SIAM, ACMA, FICCI, and CII.
The AMP 2047 is organized into seven senior sub-committees and will work on some urgent issues such as EV technology, supply chain, and charging infrastructure development. These milestones are planned on a phased-but-concentrated basis in 2030, 2037 and 2047 yet will guarantee that automotive leadership of a worldwide nature is attained.
