3. Fluid Bed Dryers –
A fluid bed dryer is an important machine used in the pharmaceutical industry to dry powders and granules. Hot air is blown through a perforated plate under the moist material. The particles lift and mix, behaving like a fluid. Hence, the hot air contacts every particle evenly, drying up the moisture from all of them quickly and uniformly.
The fluid bed dryers are, however, more compact and energy-efficient, requiring shorter drying times compared to ancient methods. They carry out processes of drying not only granules or powders but also support coating steps, which may later involve a pill coating machine, and pellet preparations for drug manufacturing.
