Karnataka is gearing up to unveil a state-level AI mission as part of its upcoming IT Policy 2025–2030, aiming to reinforce its position as a technology leader in India.
Minister Priyank Kharge has explained that the mission can be implemented as a distinct project, emphasizing the intention to promote innovation while simultaneously recognizing and responding to the growing challenges of AI.
With more than 100,000 AI professionals already in the state, the government has implemented a comprehensive study to measure the impact of generative AI in job roles, especially those at the entry level in IT because of widespread concern over automation, deep fakes, and digital fraud.
The proposed AI mission will identify a balanced pathway and promote innovation through incubators, accelerators or regulatory sandboxes, while creating a framework for responsible governance similar to what other states like Maharashtra and Kerala are already engaging in as they formulate their own AI policies.

The new IT policy is expected to be in place by July 2025, and the AI mission will be formally launched probably in November at the Bengaluru Tech Summit. Karnataka, being the tech capital of India, represents a significant opportunity to influence the national AI ecosystem and fosters a structure for sustainable innovation, ethical frameworks, and future-ready workforce development.
Industry experts believe this initiative could attract significant investments and create a ripple effect across sectors like healthcare, education, and manufacturing. The state’s proactive stance signals a bold commitment to leading India's AI-first future.
