The largest private oil and gas exploration and production business in India, Cairn Oil & Gas, announced the appointment of Steve Moore as the organization's chief operating officer (COO). Moore was previously the chief growth officer and technical director at Energean plc, the top exploration and production (E&P) business in Europe, prior to his appointment. Moore has almost three decades of broad worldwide expertise in technical, operational, and executive
leadership roles, the company said in a statement, having previously held positions with Shell, Maersk, and Mubadala. Nick Walker, CEO of Cairn Oil & Gas, commented on the appointment and stated Moore offers a track record of increasing reserves and production through the use of technical know-how and cutting-edge technologies.
Moore will provide operational excellence, leading technical assurance, HSE governance, and business excellence in his new position. He will also play a significant role in utilising the most recent technical know-how and technology to capitalise on the dynamic expansion potential within the Cairn resource portfolio.

Currently, the company generates more than a fifth of India's oil and gas. India, one of the world's fastest-growing economies, is aiming to become energy self-sufficient by drastically reducing its reliance on oil imports, which presently make up 85% of its total consumption.
