Ever since witnessing the movement of industries from Amritsar in the post-independence era, Ludhiana has become one of the top manufacturing hubs in north India. It is home to more than 95,000 micro, small and medium industrial units (SMEs) and over 250 large-scale units. Known for hosiery and bicycle manufacturing, it is Asia's largest hub for bicycle manufacturing and produces more than 50 per cent of India's bicycle consumption.
