With the constantly increasing population and industrialisation, India is going through tremendous stress for fresh water and resulting complexities & costs related to wastewater management. Many industrialists, business owners, home own¬ers, developers, and property managers struggle to have proper management/treatment of wastewater from their facilities. Improperly disposed sewage creates unsanitary conditions leading to disease, odours, flies, mosquitoes and other nuisances. This degrades residents’ quality of life and hurts property values. It is a situation that nobody wants to live with, but many are forced to cope with. It’s a common site across India that most waterbodies are pol¬luted and Nalahs are obscene spreading foul odours all through their flow. This is simply due to no treatment set up for wastewater in some cases while in other cases, the treatment facilities viz STPs and ETPs aren’t doing their job or not being operated. Complex electro-mechanical Treatment systems are prone to frequent repairs and maintenance and also cost significantly to operate them which the industries/communities/ institutions who have set them up are constantly challenged with. This in many cases results in bypassing of the wastewater and letting the wastewater flow into the nalahs, lakes & waterbodies. The net result has turned into a plaguing problem for the country with thousands of waterbodies polluted significantly costing quality of life, health challenges and resulting in unsafe ground water.
