Mahindra Aerostructures Private Limited (MASPL) is a relatively young organization. Our foray in the aerostructures industry began a decade ago, with support from the Mahindra Group and inputs from global OEMs. Even at the outset, we knew the journey was going to be a long one, with process maturity being one of the key determinants of success. Today, this awareness, coupled with the contribution of our internal and external stakeholders, and the timely adoption of process-improvement practices, has brought us the results we set out to achieve.
A transformative journey
The driving force behind this was the formation of the Continuous Improvement team in 2017. This team spends dedicated hours poring over every single aspect of our assembly and production lines — enabling them to identify optimization opportunities to save time, reduce wastage, and bolster capabilities. Thanks to their tireless dedication, our production facility in Bangalore has undergone an unprecedented transformation. An instance of this can be seen on our shop floor. Earlier, our production team customized their workstations as per their local needs and preferences. Today, an SAP-enabled system does the job for them, deciding who will need what tools for which job, and when. This has resulted in a significant level of standardization at every stage of production — from workstations to storage spaces.
