Up until the later half of the twentieth century, there was little or no use of diesel fuel additives but with the increasing fuel demand, and changing demand of the refining processes necessitates the use of fuel additives. Fuel additives are compounds formulated to enhance the quality and efficiency of fuel by increasing the octane rating and acting as corrosion inhibitors or lubricants. As the quality of fuel is deteriorating day by day, magnesium-based fuel additives have become the need of the hour and are gaining relevance in power plants, refineries and desalination plants. Fuel additives are used to alleviate the adverse effect of fuel burning that releases undesirable contents into the atmosphere like SO2 and CO2. The industry is small, customized and specialized and re¬quires frequent trial tests to ensure safer products are delivered to the customers.
