DECEMBER 20258ASHOK LEYLAND ROLLS OUT NEXT-GEN P15 AND H4 ENGINES AT EXCONTATA STRENGTHENS MRO PLAN AS COMPETITION RISES FOR IAF TRANSPORTAshok Leyland has introduced its next-generation compact engine series at EXCON 2025, marking a fresh step in high-performance powertrains for the construction and industrial sectors. The launch puts the spotlight on the company's new P15 and H4 Unipack engines, designed to deliver more power, higher fuel efficiency, and long-term dependability--key needs for today's off-highway and industrial equipment. The new lineup includes the P15 available in 49 HP and 55 HP options, and the H4 Unipack, offered Tata Advanced Systems has embarked on a project of constructing a new Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) in Bengaluru. The project is one of the bids by the company to win the contract on the Indian Air Force (IAF) Medium Transport Aircraft (MTA).TOP STORIESThe IAF C-130J Super Hercules fleet will be supported by the centre and will also offer heavy maintenance, component overhaul, structural repair, avionics upgrades, and training to the Indian engineers. The initiative is a strategic attempt to localize support and maintenance of military transport aircraft. This is one of its main benefits because the IAF is aimed at substituting old platforms, including AN-32. The MRO center will broaden the Tata aerospace presence, following its position as the world provider of C-130 empennages and aerostructures. It is planned to have the new facility completed by the end of 2026 and first C-130 J is likely to be maintained in early 2027. According to the company officials, the project is crucial to boosting the aerospace ecosystem in India to enable the formation of a basis of innovation, skills, and the ability to compete on a long term basis in the global market. As a result of the MRO, Tata is a legitimate supplier of the IAF with its intended acquisition of 80 medium transport aircraft. With Tata having a competitive advantage in terms of being ready, cost-effective and long-term fleet support, a local service and sustainment hub makes it competitive in the global marketplace as manufacturers compete to win the deal. in 55 HP and 74 HP variants. Both are built at Ashok Leyland's manufacturing facilities and meet global quality benchmarks. The engines are fully compliant with the latest CEV Stage V emission standards, giving OEMs solutions that match current environmental requirements while supporting stronger performance in demanding work environments.Amandeep Singh, President for Light Commercial Vehicles, International Operations, Defence and Power Solutions at Ashok Leyland, said, "Our customers need solutions that keep their operations running smoothly and cost-effectively." He added, "The new P15 and H4 Unipack engines deliver higher power, better fuel efficiency and proven reliability. This launch strengthens our commitment to innovation and supports India's Make in India vision."The announcement comes during the 12th edition of EXCON, held from December 9 to 13 at the Bengaluru International Exhibition Centre. With this launch, Ashok Leyland strengthens its position in the evolving equipment ecosystem, giving manufacturers and operators engines built for tougher cycles, tighter emission norms, and rising efficiency expectations.
