9SEPTEMBER 2025CHANDRASEKARAN URGES INDUSTRY TO JOIN INDIA'S GROWTH JOURNEYARM BENGALURU TO DRIVE INDIA'S FIRST 2NM CHIP DESIGNTata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran has urged the Indian industry to actively engage in the country's developmental journey, which is largely in tune with the government's Viksit Bharat vision. In his speech at a symposium organized by the Indian Foundation for Quality Management (IFQM) on Thursday, he said that, amongst others, the economic, social, infrastructure, and inclusive growth require common sector leadership as the essential condition. The Honorable Minister of Railways, Information & Broadcasting, and Electronics & IT, Ashwini Vaishnaw, today inaugurated the new office of ARM, a global leader in semiconductor design, in Bengaluru. The facility marks a major milestone in India's semiconductor journey, with the unit set to design some of the world's most advanced chips, including 2-nanometer (nm) processors for AI servers, drones, and mobile devices. On the occasion of the inauguration, Vaishnaw expressed that the project signifies a move towards PM Narendra Modi's "For India to reach its desired objectives, industry must collaborate with the Hon'ble Prime Minister's vision not only in one but many dimensions", Chandrasekaran said. He added that the urge is being made at a time when the world stage is facing various challenges such as macroeconomic instability, geopolitical conflicts, supply chain disruptions, and workforce mobility issues. He noted that despite the global challenges, India is pushing through with reforms that are to be transformative, and thus, industry must "rise to the occasion" so as to ensure that the progress is not only for the present but also for the future. "Quality and excellence in manufacturing and services" as a critical factor for success, Chandrasekaran said that India should be known for making and providing products and services of the highest quality when measured against the global standards. He also mentioned that growing the ecosystem, which covers companies, sectors, and stakeholders, is the way to go as it is not possible to keep the burden on one entity only.He highlighted the scope of the micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) as the engines of growth and urged that attention be paid to raising their level of excellence. MSMEs, he said, were the backbone of the manufacturing sector in India and the growth agenda of the country cannot go on without them. idea of establishing India as a global hub for semiconductor design and manufacturing. He referred to the rapid move-ment of the sector between 2011-22 India's electronics man-ufacturing exports have gone up by eight times to make the electronics sector a major contributor to India's economy. The minister went on to mention the significant achievements of the country's design sector, pointing out that more than 278 institutes are involved in semiconductor innovation in India. The short takeaway is that 25 institutions' students have successfully tape-out 28 semiconductor chip sets, which is a good demonstration of India's growing capabilities. Now that India will finish phase one of the Semiconductor Mission, Vaishnaw declared the next phase would focus on localization of semiconductor equipment and materials production, thereby ensuring the country has a resilient supply chain from start to finish. The launch of ARM's Bangalore office is considered to be an important step in tripling India's semiconductor innovation and attracting leading chip designers from around the globe. It is expected that new projects will create a good number of job opportunities for the youth of India and thereby the nation will be able to develop a strong semiconductor presence in the world market.
