9SEPTEMBER 2025TORAY, MAS LAUNCH APPAREL SUPPLY CHAIN VENTURE IN ODISHAMINISTER PURI SAYS INDIA BOOSTS ENERGY OUTPUT & SOURCESToray Industries (Hong Kong) Ltd has signed a joint venture agreement with MAS Holdings, the biggest South Asia's apparel manufacturer, to set up Toray MAS Apparel India, a next-generation manufacturing hub aimed at facilitating supply chain efficiency and meeting the rising demand for innovative textile solutions in India's apparel sector.The premises will be at the forthcoming MAS Apparel Park in Bhuinpur, Odisha, with its functionality Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri stated at an industry event here that India is generating record amounts of energy to attain self-reliance in the power sector, aided by a diversification of its supply sources."India is producing more energy than ever before. With the rapidly growing demand for energy, India has diversified its energy sources. Earlier, we imported from 27 countries; today, we import from 40 countries," the minister said.guaranteed for early 2026. Suren Fernando, Group CEO of MAS Holdings, noted that this partnership would not only extend their global supply chain network but also oversee the fulfillment of customer needs and expectations by way of innovation and regional development through the transition. We've expanded our energy basket to include green hydrogen, biofuels, and other sources, like cooking gas, which used to come primarily from one nation, the minister said.The minister revealed that the economy is now growing at about 6.5%, and energy demand is growing six times faster than the global average. International agencies estimate that India is projected to contribute roughly 25percent of the increase in global energy demand over the next two decades.Prime Minister Narendra Modi is rapidly leading India toward energy security, Puri stated that although the country is on a steady upward consumption trajectory, a number of policies are in place to strengthen and grow domestic supply.India has already made significant advances in the production of green hydrogen after circumstances brought about an annual production capacity of 862,000 tonnes through 19 companies. In addition, the country has awarded 15 companies a capacity of 3,000 MW for the annual production of electrolysers.Additionally, the country has emerged as one of the fastest-growing renewable energy markets in the world with more than 223 GW of installed capacity, 108 GW from solar and 51 GW from wind, and aims to achieve 500 GW of non-fossil capacity by 2030.
