JULY, 20269As the war in West Asia continues, the United States is facing a shortage of drugs due to ongoing supply chain disruptions at Baxter International's contract manufacturing site. The USFDA reportedly approached IDMA specifically for Ifofamide, a drug that is crucial in the cure of testicular, bladder, and lung cancer.Depending on the small number of suppliers, as well as the disruption of transportation of raw materials amid the West Asia war, significantly led to the shortage of medicines. Due to the manufacturing disruption, drugs like Cisplatin and Carboplatin have been affected, as there is limited backup production capacity. India is steadily increasing the use of domestic coal in power plants originally designed to run on imported fuel, marking a significant shift in its energy strategy as it seeks to reduce reliance on costly overseas supplies. The move comes at a time when global coal prices remain volatile and geopolitical tensions continue to disrupt energy supply chains. By substituting imported coal with locally sourced fuel, India aims to lower power generation costs while strengthening energy security. India's electrical steel industry has come under the spotlight after the government launched an anti-dumping probe into electrical steel imports from China, Japan, South Korea, and Russia. The move reflects a broader effort to strengthen domestic manufacturing and reduce the country's import dependence on a critical raw material used in transformers and power equipment. The investigation, initiated by the Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR), follows a complaint filed by JSW JFE Electrical Steel Nashik Pvt Ltd. The company has alleged that low-priced imports are entering the Indian market and causing injury to domestic manufacturers. India's manufacturing push is entering a new phase as states shift their focus from offering incentives to building execution-driven industrial ecosystems. While central initiatives such as Make in India and Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme have laid the foundation, the real competition is now unfolding at the state level. However, this is no longer a race driven purely by subsidies, but by the ability to deliver faster, more reliable, and scalable manufacturing environments. States across the country are increasingly positioning themselves as end-to-end manufacturing destinations by combining policy support with infrastructure, logistics, and sector-specific strategies.
