JULY 20258SILOX INDIA TO BUILD ADVANCED CHEMICAL PLANT AT DAHEJ BY 2027UFLEX UNVEILS SINGLE-PELLET FOOD PACKAGING SOLUTION FOR SUSTAINABILITYSilox India, the Indian arm of the Silox Group, a Belgian company, has acquired 35 acres of industrial land at Arete Group's Payal Industial Park(PIP) in Dahej for the construction of a state-of-the-art plant for the production of inorganic chemicals.Commissioning is anticipated by the end of 2027, and the estimated intial expenditure of Rs 600 crores makes this one of Silox's greatest investment in India to date.UFlex Ltd., a global leader in flexible packaging and polymer solutions, has introduced a game-changing single-pellet solution for packaging food and beverages. The innovation enables combining recycled PET (rPET) and virgin PET in a single, high-purity pellet that is completely compliant with FSSAI norms. This novel resin pellet offers the advantages of thermal stability and mechanical strength, along with high clarity and low end-of-pack acetaldehyde levels. Allowing for effortless compatibility with existing PET processing lines, the solution allows for a trouble-free shift to rPET-based manufacture without requiring investment in expensive equipment modifications.Along with the international and Indian teams from Silox Group, including Jean-Christophe Bogaert, Chairman of the Board, Andre Petitjean, Djivan Djierdjan, Paresh Saraiya, and Shiba Prasad Bharti, Didier Vanderhasselt, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium to India, graced the groundbreaking ceremony for the greenfield project. Commenting on the milestone, Siraj Saiyed, Director at Arete Group, said:" We are proud to have a global leader Silox Within our park. Their choice to establish their new green field project at PIP is a testament to our commitment to offering an ecosystem that supports, innovation, global standards, and sustainable industrialization. This transaction also highlights Gujarat's prominence on the global investment map'.A detailed presentation of the new project was given by Prakash Raman, MD of Silox India, who described its scope, technology roadmap, and anticipated commissioning by the end of 2027. "This new green filed project is a leap forward in our India growth strategy, and this facility will not only enhance our manufacturing footprint in South Asia, but also allow us to bring global best practices to India's industrial sector. We thank the PIP for their exceptional support in enabling this vision." Raman said. The product launch follows new FSSAI regulations favoring India's Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) objectives. Starting April 1, 2025, brands employing Category-1 rigid plastic packaging, such as PET bottles, are required to incorporate a minimum of 30 percent recycled content by FY 202526. UFlex innovation perfectly takes on this requirement by satisfying the FSSAI standards for Food Contact Material-recycled PET (FCM-rPET), calling for a certified decontamination process to ensure food safety.Interestingly, the newly created single-pellet resin has also obtained international certification, including US Food and Drug Administration (US FDA) approval, further enhancing its authenticity for use in food packaging worldwide.Ashish Saxena, Joint President of Packaging Films Business, UFlex, stated, "We are happy to lead with green innovation through our single-pellet solution that is destined to empower FMCG players to comply with EPR requirements under the upcoming FSSAI norms. Our Rs 317 crore investment in two new recycling centers being established in Noida stands as a testimony to our commitment to India's plastic circularity vision."UFlex has also emerged as the market leader in eco-friendly packaging, being the first Indian firm to receive US FDA clearance for the recycling and reuse of rPET, rPE, and rPP for food applications.
