JANUARY 20268PIDILITE INDUSTRIES TO SET UP INR 3 BILLION ADHESIVES PLANT IN PUNJABLENOVO BETS ON INDIA TO BUILD AND EXPORT NEXT-GEN AI SERVERSGlobal technology major Lenovo is set to turn India into a major export hub for its infrastructure business by designing and manufacturing artificial intelligence servers in the country for global markets.Speaking to PTI at CES 2026, Scott Tease, Vice President and General Manager, Infrastructure Solutions Group at Lenovo, said the company will leverage its Bengaluru development lab to design AI server systems, institutional purchasers of housing, infrastructure, and industrial markets. The facility will be technologically oriented, and its design is to be a modern unit with the latest manufacturing systems and quality checks. Sustainability will take center stage in its operations, and strategies to maximize the use of energy and water, minimize waste, and streamline processes with the overall ESG interests of Pidilite or its position on high levels of safety will be upheld. In addition to production of strength, the project will provide significant jobs. Direct employment will include production, engineering, quality, logistics and administration whereas the indirect jobs will be generated with local suppliers, transportation companies and services. The development of skills and training will also be implemented to develop local competences and promote long-term community participation. The Punjab plant will also enhance pan-India production network of Pidilite Industries, as it will be able to deal with fluctuations in demand and enhances level of service and reduce the logistics expenses. This action helps in the developmental plans of the company including tapping deeper into markets, expanded product lines, and continuing dominance in the construction chemicals and adhesives market in India. which will then be manufactured at its Pondicherry facility for domestic use and exports."We are going to be designing a lot of our one- and two-socket systems, think of those as the workhorses of AI in the future. We are going to be designing them in India. Once we have designed and engineered them, we are going to be manufacturing them there as well. It is going to be an important part of Lenovo's value chain," he said.Lenovo India is among the firms selected under the 17,000-crore IT hardware production-linked incentive scheme, reinforcing its commitment to local manufacturing.Highlighting the relevance for MSMEs, he advocated a hybrid AI model where heavy model training can be outsourced to cloud or GPU-as-a-service providers, while inferencing runs on lighter hardware. "It makes it very easy for them (MSMEs) to adopt real, powerful AI... It is not power-intensive. It is not expensive," he noted.Tease also praised India's push for "Sovereign AI," the growing GPU-as-a-service ecosystem, and emphasized liquid cooling technologies to reduce data centre energy costs. By 2030, he said, talent readiness will be the real differentiator in the global AI race.
