NOVEMBER 20258ASSAM SEMICONDUCTOR PLANT TO BOOST INDIA'S CHIP GOALS BY 2026JSW ENERGY EXPANDS GREEN PUSH WITH 85 MW HYBRID PROJECTThe Tata Electronics semiconductor project in Assam is set to make the state a key player in India's semiconductor ecosystem by 2026.Developed with an investment of 27,000 crore, the Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) centre at Jagiroad will produce 48 million chips per day once operational.Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, after reviewing the site's progress, said Assam has shown "foresight and dynamism" by bringing semiconductor manufacturing to JSW Energy has also incorporated 85MW of hybrid renewable capacity in the clean-energy drive. The new addition will include 74MW of solar energy, in collaboration with NHPC, and 11MW of wind, reaching a total capacity of 13295 MW of the company.TOP STORIESThe renewable energy today constitute 57 percent of the portfolio of JSW Energy, which includes 3,720 MW of wind energy, 2,286 MW of solar energy and 1,631 MW of hydro energy. This is an achievement that underscores that the company has transitioned to sustainable generation and is contributing to the goals of decarbonization in India. The hybrid venture comprises solar and wind to offer a more consistent and efficient power generation to increase grid dependability and utilization. This is perceived by the industry observers as a strategic move by JSW Energy to cement its presence within the booming renewable market with the hybrid solutions being increasingly demanded as the answer to sustained power supply. The growth makes JSW Energy one of the leading renewable companies in India and enhances its quest to achieve a balanced energy mix. The company continues to increase its clean-energy portfolio; wind, solar and hydro, to help the national objective of increasing renewable capacity and reducing reliance on fossil fuels. the region. The first phase is expected to be commissioned by April 2026.During her visit, Sitharaman, accompanied by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, highlighted that the semiconductor industry will reshape Assam's industrial future and create 15,000 direct and over 11,000 indirect jobs. Tata Electronics CEO Randhir Thakur noted that the project will transform the region into a hub for advanced electronics and generate vast employment opportunities. The plant will employ advanced packaging technologies, positioning it among India's most sophisticated manufacturing facilities. Sitharaman also encouraged students and entrepreneurs to participate in the state's growing industrial opportunities, emphasizing the role of innovation and skill development.India's semiconductor expansion continues under the 76,000 crore Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, with 10 projects approved across six states, including Gujarat and Assam. As part of the India Semiconductor Mission, the Assam facility marks another leap in building domestic chip capacity to strengthen the nation's digital and strategic independence.
