MAY, 20269Thousands of farmers in Maharashtra are set to gain reliable, low-cost irrigation as a Rs 162 crore solar irrigation contract rolls out across the state. The initiative will provide solar-powered pumps, helping farmers move away from diesel and erratic electricity supply while ensuring steady daytime water access for crops. The project will see the deployment of nearly 6,900 solar water pumping systems with capacities of 3 HP, 5 HP, and 7.5 HP. The full scope covers design, manufacturing, installation, testing, and commissioning, with execution expected to be completed within one year. This scale of rollout is aimed at improving irrigation access across rural areas where power supply remains a challenge. Facing rising uncertainty in global markets, Nepal taps India for fertilizer supply amid global disruptions, locking in 80,000 tonnes through a Larsen & Toubro (L&T) bagged its largest-ever order in the domestic metal sector, valued at Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000 Cr, from JSW Steel. L&T will install key process facilities, including blast furnaces and steel melt shops, as part of several brownfield and greenfield expansion projects at JSW Sites in Ballari (Karnataka) and Paradip (Odisha). The order is driven by JSW's vision to scale crude oil capacity from 35 MTPA to over 50 MPTA by 2031 to drive India's ambition to become a global steel powerhouse. The two companies share a partnership of over three decades, reinforcing confidence in this large-scale execution. stressed that India should launch a mission-driven effort similar to the Green Revolution to unlock its natural resource potential and build long-term economic security and energy security. He pointed out that almost half of India's imports are linked to natural resources that come from beneath the ground, including crude oil, copper, and precious metals. According to Agarwal, increasing domestic exploration and production can help India save foreign exchange, generate large-scale employment, and strengthen industrial development. RS 162 CR SOLAR IRRIGATION CONTRACT TO POWER MAHARASHTRA FARMSNEPAL TAPS INDIA FOR FERTILIZER SUPPLY AMID GLOBAL DISRUPTIONSL&T RS 15,000 CR WIN TO POWER INDIA'S GLOBAL STEEL POWERHOUSE PUSHdirect deal with India ahead of its key planting season. The agreement includes 60,000 tonnes of urea and 20,000 tonnes of DAP, both critical for crop growth and soil productivity. For Nepal, where agriculture remains a key part of the economy, ensuring steady access to fertilizers is essential. Any disruption during this period could impact planting cycles and reduce overall farm output. The decision comes as tensions involving Iran continue to disrupt global trade and energy-linked supply chains. Key shipping routes have come under strain, affecting the movement of natural gas and ammonia, which are vital for fertilizer production. This has tightened global availability and pushed prices higher, creating uncertainty for import-dependent countries.
