9MARCH 2026TATA GROUP ANNOUNCES USD 2.9 BILLION EXPANSION PLANS IN KARNATAKAROCKWELL AUTOMATION SHOWCASES SMART MANUFACTURING AT IIOTMTata Group is set to invest over $2.9 billion in a major expansion across Karnataka, aiming to enhance its presence and create more job opportunities in the state.Chairman of Tata Advanced Systems, Banmali Agrawala, met with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to discuss the upcoming projects, which will span sectors Rockwell Automation, Inc. concluded the seventh edition of India Inc On The Move (IIOTM) in Mumbai, bringing together industry leaders and tech innovators to spotlight the future of smart manufacturing in India.The event focused on how artificial intelligence, digitalization, and sustainable practices are reshaping Indian manufacturing and driving long-term industrial growth.Held under the theme The Future Is Here: Smart. Sustainable. AI-Driven Manufacturing, IIOTM 2026 drew like semiconductors, aviation, renewable energy, and defence manufacturing.With over 1.36 lakh employees already working across 27 Tata companies in Karnataka, the group has contributed more than $5 billion in investments to the region. This latest announcement will further solidify Tata's role as one of the largest direct employers in the state. Companies like TCS, Tata Motors, and Tata Consumer Products continue to generate significant direct and indirect employment.Among the major projects, Tata will set up India's first southern aviation MRO hub in partnership with Air India and Tata Advanced Systems, with an investment of $455 million. TCS will also build a new 25,000-seat campus in Whitefield, while Tata Electronics will expand its semiconductor assembly and test facilities. Other initiatives include a 2,500 MW renewable energy capacity project and an H125 helicopter final assembly line.With this investment, Tata Group is positioned to contribute significantly to Karnataka's economic growth, providing thousands of new jobs and advancing the state's technological and industrial landscape. over 1,200 attendees. The event featured more than 30 sessions, 70 speakers, and 30 demo booths that showcased advanced automation and digital solutions.Discussions centered on AI-powered autonomous op-erations, software-defined manufacturing, and intelligent sustainability across sectors such as automotive, life sci-ences, food and beverage, and semiconductors.In his keynote address, Dilip Sawhney, Managing Director, Rockwell Automation India, said: "IIOTM stands as a catalyst for transformative thinking, bringing leaders together to envision how artificial intelligence can redefine modern manufacturing, unlock new possibilities at scale, and shape a resilient, sustainable industrial future for India."He added: "India stands at a pivotal moment, where artificial intelligence, digitalisation, and sustainability are converging to redefine industrial competitiveness. The next era of `smart' manufacturing will be shaped by autonomous, software-defined operations. For the industrial world, however, AI must rise to a higher purpose--being deterministic, explainable, and fully auditable."The India Inc On The Move platform also reinforced how smart manufacturing will strengthen India's push toward Viksit Bharat by 2047, especially in emerging sectors like electronics and semiconductors.
