19OCTOBER 2026"In agroscience, BRF has formalised Environmental Risk Assessment as a connected service area incorporating residue chemistry, environmental fate, radiolabelled metabolism, aquatic and terrestrial ecotoxicology, biosolutions, vector control, and food and feed safety. Its licensed radioisotope platform supports carbon-14 and tritium studies within the approved scope", says Dr. C. Tamilselvan.Scientific work involving BRF researchers has also covered microbial diseases in laboratory animal colonies, contamination risks associated with medical devices and assessments combining product performance with environmental safety. In 2025, BRF scientists were involved in research evaluating green-synthesised zinc oxide nanoparticles for antibacterial and mosquito-control activity alongside effects on non-target organisms. Another notable milestone has been the use of BRF-generated data in India's first nano fertiliser registration.Quality, Technology and Scientific AccountabilityAs its research portfolio has expanded, BRF has continued investing in technologies that improve measurement sensitivity, procedural control and data traceability. Its analytical infrastructure includes LC-MS/MS, GC-MS/MS, HPLC, UPLC, ICP-MS, high-resolution mass spectrometry, spectroscopy, elemental and thermal analysis, and systems supporting extractables and leachables studies. Its in-vivo and pathology capabilities include telemetry, electrocardiography, respiratory plethysmography, ophthalmic assessment, whole-slide imaging, digital histology and immunohistochemistry. BRF is also strengthening its digital backbone through laboratory information management, structured data capture, audit trails and analytics.Technology, however, operates within a defined quality framework. Before protocol approval, teams evaluate the product, route, duration, target market, dossier objective and applicable regulatory requirements. Studies are designed against relevant OECD, ICH, ISO, EPA, WHO, national or product-specific requirements."BRF maintains OECD GLP certification, ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation through NABL, AAALAC accreditation, and relevant licences and registrations within their respective approved scopes. Independent quality assurance, equipment qualification, method validation, SOP control, training, corrective and preventive actions, archival and ethical oversight underpin routine operations", speaks Dr. C. Tamilselvan. The same measured approach extends to AI. BRF views AI as a decision-support mechanism rather than a substitute for scientific judgement, with potential applications in literature screening, assay prioritisation, image and signal triage, anomaly identification and large-data-set organisation. In regulated research, accountability remains with the responsible scientist.Leadership and the Road AheadBehind BRF's development is Dr. C. Tamilselvan, Founder, Managing Director and Test Facility Management representative, whose three-decade career spans scientific research, regulatory testing and laboratory management. With a doctorate in Plant Protection and Toxicology from the University of Madras, his experience encompasses analytical chemistry, toxicology, method development and regulatory research. He has authored or co-authored 45 scientific papers and participated in scientific engagements across 20 countries. His leadership philosophy places emphasis on scientific responsibility, regulatory ethics, transparent communication and continuity of client support. Internally, this translates into structured training, cross-functional scientific reviews, method development, model refinement and an environment where researchers are encouraged to identify limitations and raise concerns early.Following its recognition as a Company of the Year in Con-tract Research Organization, BRF is focusing on completing Unit III, strengthening integrated drug discovery and DMPK, expand-ing large-animal and translational research, and establishing its cath lab and modular operating theatres as dependable study platforms. Radioisotope research and Environmental Risk As-sessment are also expected to develop further within their ap-proved scopes."Continued investments in analytical science, digital pathology, laboratory information management, alternative methods, data analytics, training and international collaboration will underpin the next phase. BRF's larger ambition is to create a connected preclinical ecosystem where clients can progress from early scientific questions to regulatory evidence within a coordinated framework--combining infrastructure and technology with the scientific judgement and accountability required for responsible product development", signs off Dr. C. Tamilselvan.
