NOVEMBER 20258ADANI TO SET UP ONE OF WORLD'S LARGEST BATTERY STORAGE UNITSCENTRE APPROVES 1,000 E-BUSES FOR PUNE UNDER PM E-DRIVEAdani Group has ventured into the Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) industry. They are going to construct the largest single-location BESS in India in Khavda, Gujarat. The project is expected to be complete by March 2026, which is one of the milestones of renewable energy in India.Chairman Gautam Adani said, "Energy storage is the cornerstone of a renewable-powered future. With The Centre has sanctioned the acquisition of 1,000 electric buses for Pune as part of the PM E-DRIVE initiative, significantly enhancing the city's public transport system, stated Union Minister Murlidhar Mohol. The introduction of these new electric buses is anticipated to strengthen the fleet of Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd (PMPML), alleviate traffic congestion, and assist in reducing vehicular pollution, as mentioned by the BJP MP from Pune in a statement on Tuesday.this historic project, we are not only setting global benchmarks but also reinforcing our commitment to India's energy independence and sustainability. This initiative will enable us to deliver reliable, clean, and affordable energy solutions at scale."The BESS will produce 1,126MW of power and store 3,530MWh of energy, which is sufficient to operate at full power nearly three hours. It will have over 700 battery modules and it will have high-end lithium-ion cells with smart management systems to enhance performance and reliability.Upon its launch, the system will not only even out power distribution at peak demand but also stabilize the grid and reduce carbon emissions which would make Khavda the largest renewable and storage park in the world. Adani Group wants to increase its total storage capacity 15Gwh by March 2027 and 50Gwh within five years of time, which is going to enhance the clean-energy infrastructure in India. As the world leaders are investing a lot in storage, the initiative by Adani Group makes India the pioneer of battery-storage revolution which is important to achieve the 500 -GW renewable-power target by 2030. The PM Electric Drive Revolution in Innovative Vehicle Enhancement (PM E-DRIVE) initiative focuses on delivering cost-effective and eco-friendly public transportation solutions for the general populace.Mohol indicated that Union Minister for Heavy Industries H D Kumaraswamy has provided the final endorsement for the proposal put forth by PMPML, which manages bus services in the city, Pimpri Chinchwad, and surrounding regions under the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority.Currently, PMPML operates approximately 2,000 buses, with nearly 750 being owned by the organization and the remainder managed through contractors. Given the rapid expansion of the city, officials assert that the organization needs a fleet of at least 3,000 buses to satisfy commuter requirements. Mohol noted that he has been actively engaging with both state and central authorities regarding the procurement of new buses. Discussions with Kumaraswamy and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis were instrumental in obtaining the necessary approval, he remarked. TOP STORIESTOP STORIESTOP STORIES
